What We Believe

This We Believe:

a. “Your word is like a lamp that guides my steps, a light that shows the path I should take” (Psalm 119.105).
b. The Bible is the book of the mighty acts of God!  It is the divinely inspired written Word of God, which holds unique and authoritative power to direct the faith and life of the people of God.  As such, we hold that the Scriptures have authority over all other knowledge in matters of faith and life.
c. The Bible is also the unique witness to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus the Christ.
d. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, the Bible is God’s word to us, and continues to speak God’s word to us in every age and to every generation – ever faithful,   ever reliable, ever fresh and ever relevant.
e. “As inspired by God, all Scripture is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives.  It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.  God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
f. In this incredible and unique library of 66 books (the Old Testament/ Covenant and the New Testament/ Covenant), the Bible contains a variety of literary types,   such as history, law, letters, Gospel, and poetry.  Reading the Scriptures in the contexts they were given, and observing the literary types in which they were written, help us to discern God’s word more clearly so that we can follow the Lord’s leading more nearly.
g. Thus, when studying the Scriptures, interpreting the Scriptures and/ or trying to discern the Scriptural messages to us, it is important to be aware of the types of literature that are found in this transforming Library as we apply this lamp to our steps and light to our paths.
h. Because God so loved the world, the Bible is a gift of God not only to and for all who profess the Lord as Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer, but also to and for the world - to inspire, to instruct, to correct, to guide and to bless.
i. “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever” (Isaiah 40:8).

(Members and friends of Holy Trinity are encouraged to read, study and know the Bible.  Holy Trinity offers a variety of on-going weekly or bi-weekly Bible studies.  We also offer more intense Bible study experiences such as Disciple Bible Study, where participants spend 34 weeks reading and studying the Bible.)
